Loperamide during pregnancy and lactation


Loperamide during pregnancy and lactation, Loperamide category by FDA, its use during pregnancy and lactation its teratogenic effects are described.

Small amount of drug excrete into breast milk, if required low dose should be prescribed.

Loperamide crosses the placenta, Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans. drug should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus.

Breast feeding

Loperamide excretes into breastmilk in small quantities, effect on nursing infant unknown, use with caution, not recommended
