Safety of Loratadine during pregnancy and lactation


Loratadine during pregnancy and lactation, Loratadine category by FDA, its use during pregnancy and lactation its teratogenic effects are described.

Small amount of drug excrete into breast milk, if required low dose should be prescribed.

Loratadine crosses the placenta, animal studies failed to reveal adverse reactions by this drug, with limited evidence there is no evidence of teratogenicity or harmful effects with use of Loratadine during pregnancy. Not much adequate number of trials available with this drug Loratidine hence use with caution.

Breast feeding

Loratadine excretes into breastmilk in small quantities, no adverse effects observed with this medicine, use with caution because of limited number of studies.
